Specific Insect Control
To control insect populations throughout the growing season Arborcare recommends using environmentally friendly products. There are however, cases where more aggressive measures are required to obtain control. In these instances, we do our best to select the insecticide with our customer’s safety and well-being in mind.
Insects, such as Birch Leaf Miner and Cottony Psyllid, are protected from spray applications because they are encased within the leaf upon which they are feeding. To combat these pests requires a systemic control. Systemic controls are insecticides that are injected either directly into the tree or into the surrounding soil. They are absorbed by the tree through the root system or directly through the xylem and carried into the leaf where it is eaten by the insect. The feeding insect will ingest the poison and eventually die.
Our systemic insecticides are Cygon and Confidor which are not available to the public over the counter. Our plant technicians are trained and certified to use these products safely.
