Root Zone Fertilizing

Spring Root Zone Fertilizing

Spring and fall fertilizing is the cornerstone of ArborCare’s Plant Management program. Alkaline soil conditions make it difficult for planted trees and shrubs to thrive naturally. Analysis confirms that most local soil conditions do not provide enough basic minerals to maintain healthy plant growth. We use an acidic fertilizer with micro nutrients and humic acid to help neutralize the alkalinity and promote leaf growth.

Spring is an important time for all trees as water is re-directed from the roots carrying nutrients upward to the branches and emerging leaves. Applications are made by injecting the water-diluted fertilizer into the root zone around the drip line. In bedding areas, or along hedge rows, we apply fertilizer on the surface rather than injecting it into the soil thus protecting any existing irrigation lines or landscape fabric.

Fall Root Zone Fertilizing

As summer turns to autumn and autumn progresses, trees begin their dormancy stage. Water, within the tree, travels downward where it is used to aid in the growth and development of the roots.

Our fall fertilizer aids in supplying the specific nutrients and minerals to help roots grow. This is important for newly planted trees and shrubs that may have been harmed from insect infestation or other stresses throughout the summer.
